Typically, actuaries work for insurance agencies and brokerages (which sell the policies of several companies) or particular insurance companies. They might also work for the government. Actuaries require skills in statistics and mathematics and must pass a series of tests.

Claims adjusters work with customers who have experienced a loss and are making a claim. Also known as insurance examiners, appraisers, or investigators claims adjusters must decide how much the insurance company should pay for the damage or loss.

They have to travel to meet with clients and inspect the property for which claims are being made.
